I was looking at the specification of Crucial's MX500 series and noticed that they use an SLC cache that varies in size, depending on the amount of free space on the drive. I would like to program the whole thing to run as SLC. I'm assuming that a) this must be executed and managed by firmware and can therefore be altered, and b) that the utilisation of SLC mode provides performance rewards that justify the implementation of the cache.

I would be very interested in finding a firmware hack that converts 2TB MX500 drives to full SLC, even though that means sacrificing 2/3 of the storage (because TLC vs SLC) to yield a paltry 640GB.

Any one else interested, or have advice?
