this would be correct you need some type of guide line for the tool to line up correctly with the top headstack
then you know for sure about the other headstack beneath
when removing it
its a good cheap tool for sure

This tool looks good and price is more than fair, but I still think Nikola's tool is the alpha and omega for this job.

Of course HDDSurgery tools are more usable, it is true.
But if you look at low-cost segment you will see H**C and S*******n D**a products only. Quality of them - that is the question! Try to search some info in this forum, this is really interesting.

In the video posted on youtube you can see that the tool is used on a ST31500341AS drive:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-972i020Xvsas you can see the tool relies on the plastic case of the disc (HDA contact removed), but on other drive models the tool wiil not fit if you remove HDA.
I tried the tool on a ST3500320AS, it fits only if i keep HDA contacts mounted.

Sorry, if I didn't understand correctly that exactly you mean.
You must to set the tool
carefully, by moving it from outside platters area close to the head stack arm. And during this process tool relies just on the platters only, not on the HDA case. And of course flat cable connector of the head stack
must be unscrewed before any yours actions. This connector absolutely
not needed for setting/removing tool process. In demo video I just cut off it for easy demostration only.

a consideration out of this head swap function of the tool:

Hello guys!
Tools for Maxtor hard drives is available. I know hard drives such as DiamondMax Plus 9 and DiamondMax 10 are too old, but sometimes I still see them in my small DR company

By the way, for anyone who's wondering. I have purchased these tools (the Seagate ones) and they work beautifully. A simple design that just works. They hold in place nicely even while transferring the heads over to the other drive.
The only issue I've noticed is that removing the tool from under the heads slowly is difficult. Sometimes the clip is prone to pop out suddenly dropping the heads onto the platters faster than I'd like. Not a huge issue, but it might be worth redesigning the clip to be a bit less pronounced making it smoother when removing.
Still an A+ tool at a reasonable price.

@data-medics, thanks for the post. I had asked two people who had tried their tool and opinions were not good, so it's great to hear you found them great, for the most part. With a minimum order value of $100 + S/H, I wasn't about to just try them without reading some positive feedback first.
