Friend's drive MHW2120BH CA06820-B38800AP failed with data not backed up. Is it necessary to get exactly the same PCB model (the few I've found are very expensive), or is it possible that a drive board that, say, begins with CA06820- might work?

Any help is appreciated.

If the controller board is bad, you need to get an identical one with the same firmware.

What failed. Power supply, heads, internal SA. You do not give us a whole lot to go on. This needs a better diagnostics in order to go on. Tell us more details of what is failing and what the drive is doing.
