HD WD6400AAVS - I chance the cables

December 1st, 2010, 17:29

Good night all. I'm new here but the forum and a little scared. I put the cable from my computer on an external disk (HD) and turned the tide. The HD died. I tried to retrieve the data that were there, including photos that estimated but they told me it was not possible. Only by finding a disc of the same make and model in order to replace a part that was in short circuit. The question is as follows. The model of my drive is Western Digital Green Cover WD6400AAVS - 00G9B1. If the electrical part of the disc is in short circuit, the model has to be precisely equal to or might be different? It tried to buy on the net and say that the model is discontinued but have WD6400AADS and i find one wd6400AAVS that is very expensive. Do not know if I was explicit, but anyone knows me out this issue?

Well, you can buy a WD6400AAVS-00G9B1 and try to replace the PCB, but there's a masked ROM on it, so the chances are really quite low.

As we're on the same country, if you want I can take a look at it. If you want PM me.

If you upload a detailed photo of the component side, one of us may be able to help you repair your board. Many times the problem is only a shorted diode, in which case it can simply be removed. However, after removing the diode, the drive will no longer have overvoltage protection, so be absolutely certain your power supply is good.

Test the resistances of the following components -- D4, D3, R64, R67. They are located near the SATA power connector. Use a multimeter on the 200 ohms range.

Check the square SMOOTH motor controller chip for burn marks.
