WD My Book will unlock in Windows 7 and is seen but Windows wants to format it.

Not sure if their is a question in your post or not ? download r-studio run it in demo mode scan the drive and see if it can see the data if the goal is data recovery "still not sure" then buy it to recover data. Some people also like getbackdata ntfs some jobs have better results with one or the other so maybe try both.

Thanks for the reply, I was actually looking for the usb/controller for my specific WD MyBook Essentials model. But sadly it may not be the source of the problem. I running Partition F&M right now and have a long way to go before I determine if the data is see-able or not. Should have not let panic set in so soon.

I'm a new member on this forum and either don't have access to delete my own irrelevant posts or I don't have enough status to do so yet. I would have deleted the post if I could.

Thanks for your help though. I was going to do what you recommended as my next steps.
