Well I got the dreaded click click.. and some other great noises going on.

Ironically this is my back up hard drive for 160 gigs of data , 7 years of business information that I can't lose.

I'm looking for parts or another drive;

I managed to get it going again, and make the mistake of putting it back in it's case.. now it's not working again.. bah!

What do you plan on doing with "parts or another drive"?

And you're going to try DIY?

7 years of business information that you can't lose will go unheeded if you attempt DIY.

Your data your choice. Best option is to seek for a professional to do the job.

Good luck

If I had 7 years of work realated information in my HDD and did not have a good backup of this one I would consider to pay the few dollars on this one and get my data back to me. If you got it going once as you said then stop now a DR company has a better chance of getting back your data now on this drive for not such a high cost on it. Continue well results = double + the cost on this one. Ask here people will give you good advice of who is near you and has good skills to do this job for you.

you should send it to data recovery company for process if such important. do it by yourself perhaps 98% unsuccess also may have chance it worse. think it over and over before action. good luck.

One easy thing to eliminate are oxidised contacts at the preamp connector. You can try shining these up with a soft white pencil eraser.
