Hello everyone!

I would like present a new simple type of hard drive head stack replacement tool. This tool made from strong acrilyc sheet with high precision accuracy at 0.01 mm. By using this tool heads are can be safely lifted off from surface and then moved outside the platters absolutely without touching surface. Tool also do not touch the surface too. Of course light touch of the surface by the tool will be inevitably while setting or removing tool process, but platters are don't have new defects after that. It's proved in many experiments!

Machining looks really good, although with this design I would be afraid of the tool falling out while pulling the headstack out. Seems like it would work better if it were fixed to a pivot point (like another tool out there - although that might some patent laws, etc.)

it looks a good tool i dont think the head would fall out as its got a little catch to stop it from shifting
the qeastion is how good is plastic vs metal versions.
and how well does the tool work

It's always interesting to see new tools and ideas coming into DR...... I think though, it's a "Suck it and See" tool.... you're gonna have to give it a try to see if you like it.....

My tools is result of hard work and many experiments. It started at december 2012 and now, after half year, commercial versions of the tools in sale. Work report was published at pc-3000 support forum, you can see it there (if you have access).

Of course tool not ideal, and it has one huge negative moment - in setting/removing tool process you can touch the surface. BUT! Because material is plastic and machined with high accuracy, after light touching of the platters they not have new bad sectors.
And then tool is finally fixed you can safely move HSA to non-data area without any touching MR-heads or plastic tool with surface.

This way is more carefully then other plastic tools like these:



For example, if you need to exchange heads in high density drive such as ST3500418AS or ST31500340AS, tools on the picture above just kill HSA after moving heads over the surface from landing zone in 90% cases. With my tools this job is pretty eazy and effective. And of course low price of the tool is positive moment too.

I need a video before even considering these tools. A clean and close up good quality video. Without that, I'm stuck with the idea in my head that these head tools will slip off or even damage the heads/platters. Don't knock the SD head combs, there the only useful tools SD has produced.

I think it still needs to practice allot to get the job done.
But for the price we can't ask much more.

The tools of HDDsurgery seems better (tough I never test them). This is only by seeing the videos, I would like to test them in hands ehehehe

Yes, you are absolutely right. Before use tools in real data recovery cases you must to try it on your own another hard drives - totally broken or partly worked. You must to feel all important moments - angles, directions, forces etc. After that with some experience head swap will be really easy and safely for user data.
