What are the 1st two lines of the sticker on the PCB?

Also, you do realise that you'll have to copy/move the NVRAM from the bad PCB to the donor, right?

Cheers

Sean

, Oh, and this is a laptop hd.

also, you mentioned the nvram briefly, perhaps you could explain further? I assume identical firmwares will be sufficient.

thanks,
Dennis

I'll check for that PCB on Monday for you.

Yes, I know it's a laptop drive! ;-)

Firmware match is NOT sufficient in these drives, the nvram points to a more-or-less unique position to pick up the SA (Service Area) and the Data Area.

So, you WILL require specialist tools or expert soldering skills to transfer this info to the new PCB.

If you're in/near UK, I can help you with this.

Cheers

Sean

Well, I'm in Bermuda. we have soldering equipment, but what sort of specialist tools do you mean? will i need some sort of ic programmer? I've heard tell of something like that for the larger drives, but not for notebook drives. Is there some existing methodology for dealing with hitachis that I am unaware of?

Confusedly Yours,
Dennis
