Have you guys found any vendors that are especially good to deal with when trying to find donor drives? It seems like there are so many places that don't want to deal with matching anything more specific than model numbers even though we pay more for data recovery drives (in most cases)...

Fred Farzan @ Access Computer Parts in LA is your man, although he's rather expensive. I buy most of my parts from him because he goes the extra mile to check all my requirements.

I'd rather pay that bit more for a part that I know will be compatible, than take the risk of it not working.

Agree, Fred is expensive but normally comes up with the goods.

I also agree. Fred logs a lot on info about the drives. It's not cheap though, I suggest you buy several drives at a time.

Yeah Fred is the main one I deal with now for the hard-to-find drives, but occasionally he doesn't have what I need so I was just wondering if there was another guy out there like him, just for another option if need be...

I use powersourceonline for finding specific drives. It's a subscription service (about $500 per year), but useful for finding drives.

I used that one too, but the only usefull info it gave me always came from Fred; so not much use in subscribing then.
Other vendors dont mind to give specific information, so you always have to ask and often get no answer at all, or they cant check it.

Ultratec is the company behind firmwarefinder.
Com-com is unknown to me. Are they any good if you want drives with specific MDL or DCM ?

com com are just brokers and will spank you on price, I stopped using them years ago, I can do my own searching with powersource.

some people use brokerbin too.
