Hi, i just stumbled across this site today, while looking for a PCB for my 250gb IDE WD Caviar SE. It worked fine before, but after starting up the box for the first time in a year or so, it decides not to even power up. I'm hoping to get out of it as cheap as possible, as im not even sure if there was anything i wanted to keep on that drive that hadnt already been backed up, and new, much bigger drives are so cheap nowadays. The drive does not power up, and gets quite hot on the PCB near the motor connector. The 4 torx screw mounts on the board are discoloured by heat by the looks of things. Are there any other methods of diagnosing the PCB without having another to swap and try? I'm an Automotive Electrician by trade so i have access to quality meters and tools if need be.

details are as follows:

MDL: WD2500JB-00GVC0
Date: 26 Apr 2005
DCM: DSBHCTJAH

2061-701265-200 AH
XC 1X47 0Q8H B 0006430 5436

Is there anything different between an IDE drive and a SATA drive other then the pcb? I have a SATA version of this drive i bought at the same time for another machine, but im not too keen to try the board in it just in case i kill a good drive.

I have seen a mob on US Ebay advertising them, but its $60US + shipping which works out to the cost of a new 500gb drive here :\

I'm located in Australia, so the closer the better.

Any help is muchly appreciated.
