PCB for a WD800 needed

i get i IDNF problem and i assume that there is a PCB problem.
the model number is : WD800JB-00CRA1

the number is 2061-001102-300 E.
is the translator problem fixed by changing the pcb (swapping the chip i mean)
or can it be fixed with F/W update?

No.

No.

You will need a special equipement SW/HW to regenerate translator.
And the most important thing : you have to know what you are doing.
If your data is important then you have to seek for a pro. It's a strange issue for you, but DR company/man doing this almost everyday.

I wish i could do this from linux , but I managed to boot a livecd of windows and reset the translator now i'm dumping a broken partition w/ ext3 fs
while i am here do you know if this device has issues w/ SMART capabilities I cant manage to set it back ...
