My GF's HDD's PCB main WDC IC chip overheated - trace of chared discoloration on insulation pad. I swapped a few PCB boards (anyone can do it) from identical donor HDDs before. But this one is very difficult to find. Please, if anyone has one for sale - I'd buy it. She recently started a new job and several presenatations that she worked on for about a week are on that drive. She's devastated. The HDD was in Dell Dimension PC - etched PCB code: 2060-701-265-001 REV A; white barcode label (by IDE pins): 2061-701265-200. Thank you very much. Arthur. |

See this thread: fried-wd1600jb-00gvc0-pcb-t14949.html When swapping PCBs, you will need to transplant the serial EPROM chip at U12 from patient to donor. If you are not adept at soldering, your local TV/AV repair shop should be able to do it for you. |

hi, take a look my video on youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X2hgiDHiXKM for swap ROM. and no need to identical donor HDDs. just the same model of PCB will be fine. |

Thank you guys for your replies. One of the forum members who PMed first is taking care of this issue. I am amazed at what you folks know about this stuff and how deep the science behind the HDDs seems to be (at least to novices like me). |
