Can you describe the failure symptom? If you upload a detailed photo, one of us may be able to help you repair your board, or at least confirm that the problem isn't elsewhere. |

I have submitted SS of PCB.(wait till its approved by Mods) Actually i got it repaired once. But instead he removed some components and made it work. I think it is same problem again. The drive is not detected. But when i connect it to PC using USB converter, sometimes it makes chirping sounds. What should be my problem? Also it gets up somewhat heated up when connect it through USB. I was using it with same USB interface. Help Awaited. Thanks. |

The chirping sounds could be a symptom of stiction. This occurs when the heads come to rest on the platters instead of their normal parking position. Does the SMOOTH motor controller chip get hot? BTW, I suspect that the previous repairer removed a 5V TVS diode. If so, then this would suggest that your drive was subjected to an overvoltage. Have you changed your power supply since then, or was the failure due to human error? |
