hi guys.. first post here.. not first drive opened.. prior experience with ST3500320AS firmware BSY bug AND heads were not parking (stuck on plater due to brakelock out of place.. moved arm and closed.. spins!. then did TTL firmware fix)

anyways my issue with this WD3200BMVU-11A04S0 it has lost a head on the top arm and i have a WD250BEVT-75ZCT2 as possible donor if the heads are compatible?
or should i opt to buy same drive if available? or what drives heads are compatible with this? :?:
tried a WD1600BEVS-22RST0 and no go.( hope i didnt fry it)

WD3200BMVU-11A04S0
DCM: HACT2AB
the original head has this barcode# DDZE2DU1M39

i put the heads of the 160 back and it reads fine the 160.. left files there to test when placing back.
tried the 250..but it has 3 heads not 4.
putting heads back on the 3 head is harder.. messed up heads.. (no biggie that drive was going bad as it was.. it was expendable)

so i definitely need the same heads. no wd3200bevt would work ?

a lil more about me.. at 11 yrs old i had made a electric shocker and told people it was a lie detector (roltfl)
also took a rotary phone apart and used the dual bells with a metal wedged in between the hammer thingy.. yah i went to window of neighbor and made hi answer the phone 4 times and he told his wife.."honey! how do they know when im about to pick it up and they hang up.. i hear the dial tone"
a minute later i finally came out of bushes saying " because i can see u!" since then i saw technology as my fun = i wont stop tinkering

You're probably not going to get a direct answer. Trial and error will always teach you something.

Maybe the problem is not compatiblity, but your process. Returning heads to its native HDD casing will always give better results than changing into a failed or failing HDD.

It is possible that one or more of your media surfaces is bad. Contact between head stack and media surface during your head replacement and removal processes can cause problems, in addition to the fact that you are probably working in a non-clean room envorinment is likely contaminating the HDD anyway.

I think it is safe to assume here that even if successful, data access will be extremely difficult as you will almost certainly be faced with huge amount of uncorrectable errors in many of the sectors, probably too many for any commercial software to recover, and even more so through a USB connection.

You need professional help. You need help with donor selection, head replacement, very likely cleaning of potentialy contaminated media surfaces, and after this you will still need professional services to extract the data from the disk.

Just because it has new heads does not make it repaired. there is much more to it.
