I have found this (rare) drive : Brand: Toshiba Interface: PATA/ZIF Drive Capacity: 60 GB MPN: MK6014GAL, HDD1807 A ZK01 DC 3.3V 500mA Rotation Speed: 4200 RPM Model: MK6014GAL MADE IN PHILIPPINES Does the HDD180x différence ils important ? I walked through this forum and have read from a user called "CK" that only parts MKxxxxxxx and Zxxx are important Can anyone confirm ? Thank you Sincerely |

Hello Yes that will be important. That is the P/N of the drive. Regards |

What are the symptoms? Could we see a detailed photo of the component side of the PCB? Sometimes there is an easy fix. |

Anyway i suggest this : As i have doubts on ZIF adapter state, i'll make some more tests this week-end and tell you the results. At the moment, here is the current state : The drive isn't recognized via the ZIF adapter. Each time it is powered, the symptom is "different" : - once, nothing occurs - once, drive is clicking quickly "click click click click" - once, drive is clicking slowly "cliiiiiiiick...cliiiiiiiiiiiiick.." - etc. Visually, the PCB seems OK. I was thinking about PCB problem instead of head problem. Anyway, i'll test it thoroughly before posting PCB picture. By the way, any quick multimeter guide for PCB testing (at least the most important parts as TVS, etc.) ? Thank you. Sincerely. |

If the drive is clicking, then that means it is getting power, in which case the TVS diode is OK. Also, since the HDD is clicking, it means that the MCU is alive, in which case the onboard regulators would also be OK. But if you wish to measure the voltages, then the most likely test points would be the coils and transistors. |
