I think this conversation has taken a wrong turn.

Changing the serial number of a donor will NOT render it compatible. There was an element of sarcasm in my earlier post.

To be realistic: Any fault that leads you to believe the issue is mechanical is probably beyond any chance of DIY and the best chance for any recovery is to consult a pro.
