I'm looking for a SATA to SATA docking bay. I am having difficulty finding this retail, but I believe it has to exist somewhere. I've found SATA to eSATA/USB docking bays and I've found SATA 5.25 hotswap bays. But really what I'm looking for is stupidly simple - I just want one of those SATA 7+15 pin connectors in some sort of upright container (external to a case, and it doesn't require some sort of 'lock-in' mechanism.) I'm certain I could fashion one myself, but I really don't have the time to be making the volume that I need, so I was hoping to buy one from elsewhere.

Anyone have any ideas?

What do you want to accomplish?

I want to be able to hotswap IDE drives. The way I'm doing this now is through IDE => SATA adapters. I only have a limited number of spaces to hotplug the SATA => IDE adapter setups. I want more. A simple SATA 5.25" hotswap bay won't cut it because they all require themselves to be closed. I need something that does not require some sort of door to be closed on it because I use the SATA => IDE adapters for hotswapping.

Would this work?

No, thanks though. That's what I've found plenty of, but the problem is that they all seem to have doors on them - I need them open at one end so that it will fit an IDE drive with an adapter on it. I've tried using a StarTech bay like one of those that you linked - I modded the door mechanism so it wouldn't need to close anymore, but the closing door provides some constant pressure on the drive, keeping the drive securely in the 7+15 connector at the end. Without that constant pressure, the drive detaches.

Why would you want to put an IDE adapter on an IDE drive to connect to an IDE port? I have some here. You simply slide the IDE drive in and it connects to the internal IDE connections internally.

If you want to connect an IDE drive to SATA connector, how 'bout this?

Have you looked at this http://www.antec.com/product.php?id=2075&pid=105.... This is SATA to SATA and does not have a door that needs to be locked. The locking button is purely to hold the drive securely in place and has no affect on drive operation if not locked. I use these in a couple of my workstations for easy hot swap access and they work really well.
