This may be a 'thick' question, but .. Adapted to what?

IIUC, this is an all-in-one adaptor that adapts several different SATA formats to a standard 7-pin SATA connector.

BTW, I was a little confused by "CF card" until I realised it referred to CFast, which is a SATA based spec.

I think that the HDD on the bottom side is an SFF-8784 model.

Actually it seems to have separate host sata connector for each adapter connector.

That would be the correct way to do it. Otherwise, if you were to bus all the inputs to a single output connector, you would create reflective stubs.

I quite like the design of this adaptor, especially its inspection windows. If I were in the DR business, I would probably buy one.

A collection of various non-standard SATA interfaces and SATA protocol hard drives, I myself may encounter situations where I cannot find or do not have them at the moment during data recovery. After including common MSATA and NGFF, I can use a 99% SATA protocol disk with just one card
