Wanted to buy: Western Digital WD2300KS - 00PFB0 DCM: xxxxCAxxx (mine is HSBHCAJCH) Looking for help/advice as well. Read related posts on the forums. Please tell me if I'm missing something obvious. I was trained as an electronics tech years ago and would like to repair it myself. Thanks for the help and interest... Colin. (cbex) ============================= Whirrr...Click, Whirrr...Click, Whirrr...Click. Spin down. Tested R120 and Q3 on the board. They are OK... Firmware??? Think I'll try PCB first, then replace write heads or transplant platters. This drive was in a RAID0 array (stupid, stupid me) There was about 1 disk failure on boot a day for three days then, BOOM: No boot and the clicking noises started. Want to hear the noise??? Click this link to hear: http://www.atcost.org/need_hd/WD3200KS_noise.WAV Click this for better pictures: http://www.atcost.org/need_hd

I did get a donor, and I tried the salvation-data device and I transplanted heads twice to no avail. Bye-bye data. There was more that could be done, but I gave up at that point. I still have 2 00PFB0's 1: my old drive which quit and has head or other internal problems. (13 feb 2006) 2: a donor that I bought and transplanted one set of heads from. (04 may 2006) both have pcb's that I believe are working fine, however I did swap the firmware chips at one point and switched them back, and I also was switching boards back and forth between drives, etc. I have no reason to believe that either of the PCB's would work assuming the firmware is correct or made to be correct. the pcb's both are the same number: 2061-701393-800 AA let me know if you need anything, as I am done playing with this stuff. |

So at this point, neither of the drives work, right? |
