I am in need of a functioning drive. My current one had a head crash and recovery services are beyond my wallet. I am hoping to do a head swap and if successful try and recover the data.

Im afraid Doomer is right. You can try, but if data is at all important you should read through this forum and see exactly how difficult it is going to be first.
