SalvationData insists that the 1 year warranty for HD Doctor for Seagate only covers the HD Doctor for Seagate Console & Software. It excludes all the following which are an integral part HD Doctor for Seagate:

1. 2.5” HDD adapter
2. SATA HDD adapter
3. Transmitter-SEAGATE serial jumpers (2 for PATA, 2 for SATA, 2 for 2.5” HDD)
4. Console-SEAGATE Serial Command Transmitter
5. ROM-SEAGATE External flash programmer
6. Universal PATA convenient jumpers
7. PC-Console USB cable
8. IDE and SATA interface cables
9. PATA power cable
10. PATA-SATA power adapter cable

SalvationData even insists that, even if any of the above are received faulty in the initial shipment, I need to pay for replacements.

This is unacceptable. Does anyone agree with or has anyone bought HD Doctor for Seagate under such similar ridiculous warranty terms?

I dunno, it seems like the shipping would cost more than the part on any of those items. I guess I would get behind you on the SATA adapter as I found it pretty difficult to source one that worked as well as the included one, and the serial adapter as it is somewhat proprietary.

1. 2.5” HDD adapter
I love the little elf adapter. Its held up pretty well so far.

2. SATA HDD adapter
The power cable connector on these would break connection whenever moved so I had to bend the contacts to make a better connection. Anyone have success with another brand?

3. Transmitter-SEAGATE serial jumpers (2 for PATA, 2 for SATA, 2 for 2.5” HDD)
So far the SATA jumpers have been holding up but its days are numbered. The PATA has more of a base which hasnt caused any problems so far.

4. Console-SEAGATE Serial Command Transmitter
So far the original one that came with the Seagate Doctor has worked just fine. I have a brand new backup that came with the Hitachi Doctor.

5. ROM-SEAGATE External flash programmer
I didnt recieve this with my Seagate Doctor. They did include one with the Maxtor Doctor but its pretty unreliable. Before I broke down and purchased a programmer I soldered a soic zif adapter to the board they supplied.

6. Universal PATA convenient jumpers
The yellow ones supplied to me got loose after a few connections. I threw them and purchased new ones.

7. PC-Console USB cable
I ditched the USB cables due to rust on the connections. Very poor quality cables. "China Quality"

8. IDE and SATA interface cables
The IDE cables have held up so far. I replaced all the "China Quality" SATA cables after one decided not to work.

9. PATA power cable
I power all drives externally and not through the device. Even when reading Seagate roms I manually cut the power. Can't have a $$$ recovery turn off in the middle of work.

10. PATA-SATA power adapter cable
Get a higher quality power cable. The ones supplied to me fit loose and never really made a good connection. "China Quality"


What i'm trying to say is, don't buy it for the accessories. The box is well made but the rest is "China Quality".

Warranty is a part of the buying contract. We - as the buyers should read the terms - and if these terms
exclude the warranty for the seperate adapters and cables we (the customers) either accept that or not.

If these terms where not clear, not published at all, then faulty parts belong to the unit and have to be
replaced by SD. But .... who is going to sue a company in China for $ 15,00 or even less...?

I cant speak about reliability of other adapter or cables, but the 2,5" IDE adapter is outstanding. I had
several other types here - but all of them had problems somewhen whith a hdd. The one from SD is the
big exception - its the best compared to all others. I even ordered some seperately (with huge shipping
costs as SD ships only with UPS/DHL etc.) and had a doner - one does not work ....

Agree about the 2.5" adaptor, the ELF thingy. They are very good indeed.

But as for the SATA adaptor, what a poor quality piece of s**t

Oh please do not worry on this one. I do not think any company will stand behind these small electronic adaptors. I had a problem with the terminal adaptor for ACE and was told it was only guaranteed for one year. No where in any of the contracts is this stated and guess we have to assume after we get it we do not have a guarantee of one year on extras. I believe they are considering these small adaptors and parts as extras and not as port of the complete unit.

A PATA>SATA adapter from Ace is OK but I do use another brand and it's very reliable, well built and of course can process all VU commands :O) You really don't need all of these original adapters

All went well until I plugged the drive in.

You can get all those things for a few dollars/quid/rand/rubel in any country from any most IT shops ebay/amazon/allegro/bidorbuy

I bought the full Kit and they provided me with several usb/pata/sata<>pata/molex<>sata power splitters

Only thing I had to buy extra was 1.8" micro ide and ZIF/LIF to IDE (dont know why SD wont supply this but it cost me £2.50 free p&p from china... yea..)

As long as the main unit is covered I am happy

Er actually,
Under China law they HAVE TO provide a guarantee for a year on all parts.
they CANNOT change the terms of this contract no matter how they feel they can.
you would actually be Very surprised at how much protection China law gives you.

This used to be a common trick in China , you buy something from a department store and on the back of the till receipt was a disclaimer overriding the Central law.
Local areas are NOT allowed to override the central laws (law from central government) no matter how much they bullshit that they can.

just revert the case back to the local trading standards in their area, each time they do it, or back to the customs department. (if they get a complaint they HAVE to look into it, which is work for them, which they do not like, so generally the go in heavy handed and slap down hard)


If you are in Europe, just add to your complaint that the product does not comply with European standards, or you suspect it contains Lead.

The SATA Serial Connector I Have Filed And Made it Round then the Plastic Near the Base To the PCB Was Glued With Glue and I Have Never Had a Issue Since Then .

Those things are bough from local chinese companies in shenzen- the sam crap you get on ebay for 2.50 including postage.
Even after 2 years of using my HD Doctor it will die i will kick up a fuss then obviosly- but when ordered the whole shabang from them they included like 5 sata to ide, 3 ide cables- 5 sata cables- some rubbish sata to usb thingi ma jiggi that i binned anyway

Its difficult to communicate with them and Chinese always have a strange way of dealing with customer support.
