Hitachi HTS541080G95A00 firmware/RES problem

April 28th, 2011, 2:52

Hi Folks,
Hi Folks,

I have an Hitachi HTS541080G95A00 which i try to save the data without success.
First i tried to work with Salvation Data HD Doctor for Hitachi, the hdd state move to Ready after power on but when i try to load from HDD, it fails and show the error status.
I tried to read the firmware modules and mots of them failed, it managed to read only the last 3 out of the list.
I tried to move the PCB and move to safe mode and read from SA-C but also all modules reads failed.
When i go to view sector they are all 6666.
The NVRAM seems to be fine, i managed to read and edit it.

Then i tried Salvation Data Data compass, and it starts in Ready mode but when i enable UDMA or Read mode, it shows error.
Any help will be highly appreciated, and also the firmware will be good to have, although i am not sure that i can write it.
Also the RES file which i can use to download from file in HD doctor will be very good to have.

Thanks & Cheers,
Oded

You need to give more detail of your problem about HDD. When it comes ready does it spin up and take a little time or come ready right away?

Do you hear your drive spinning up and heads seeking?

Did you check all your power connections to these tools?

What was original problems with this HDD?

Have you tried to open it in clean room and see if there is head, platter, or spindle motor damage on it?

Just to attach it to the HD doctor and come ready does not mean a lot in this one. Sorry but you need more details on what the drive is doing than this one.

hi,
i think you can also tell us which modules you can read in order to help you.
If you want to try with data compass i wouldn't enable UDMA in such a drive, you can try to use the SA analog tech (the automatic load option) and after check with the "read from hdd" button how is detected... but i'm pretty sure this drive will not read simply laoding it with DC.

Hi Foks

Thanks for your help buddies, appreciate it.

The only modules that i manage to read are:
WRT0
WRT1
WRT2
or
WRT1
WRT2
WRT3
(One of these 2 combinations-i am not in lab now so can't remember exactly, think the first one).

Regarding the SA automatic load, I tried it out, no success here too, in this condition it stays in ready mode, but still almost impossible to get actual response from the drive.
Why it isn't good to use the UDMA? can it damage the plates further?
After i get to this state i open the DC Explorer and try to mount the DC device and it get stucked, so i trick it and reset it through the console and then it see it in the DC explorer, i try to look for partitions but it runs forever and couldn't find any so i stopped it after 8 hours.

Regarding the other questions:
Do you hear your drive spinning up and heads seeking?
Can hear the drive spinning but not sure that i can hear the seeking sound.

Did you check all your power connections to these tools?
yes, all good.

What was original problems with this HDD?
Can't be recognized, laptop just couldn't recognize it one day without any reason.

Have you tried to open it in clean room and see if there is head, platter, or spindle motor damage on it?
I am not familiar with the process yet, but bought the tools, but will do that if you can guide a bit to understand what i am looking for.

Hope the info can help some more,
Thanks Guys,
Oded

UDMA is not good for unstable drives, many times is better to slow down the drives ;)
i guess you are loading from file using the family selection as you can't read the module map module... but res file (or family selection)is offset based as in laptop hitachi drives SA is not fixed, so i think there can be a problem on NVRAM on SA positioning or most likely head/preamp damage as you can't hear heads calibrating.
In hitachi drives sometimes if there's a head problem head will not be moved from latch position.
