Ok, I really really need some help here. I had a power surge that took out my computer, fishtank, wireless, etc right through my surge protector...some thunderstorm. Anyways, the surge fried the controller on my HDD and now I'm seeking the same hard drive to fix it, well, the same controller. I desperately need the data off of the drive and am willing to pay for it. The drive is a Seagate Barracuda st3500620as, part #9bx144-621 with HP24 firmware. I guess as long as the firmware is HP I could go from there. IF anyone can help me I would be eternally grateful for it - and will pay. Please contact me at m.mitchell@familyties.ca if you can help. Well, I hooked the hard drive up to a utility program that i have....the drive spins and I can see it however the interface doesn't work. A computer techie friend of mine suggested I swap out the controller and hope that the data on it is not scrambled. The drive looks fine, just won't interface. If anyone has this drive, I would love to get my hands on it. |

Ok, you are jumping the gun slightly here, you need to determine exactly what the fault is before you go swapping parts. You need to clarify what you mean by "It won't interface". If you are connecting it as a SATA device to your motherboard, is it recognized by your BIOS? Before we go any further, a PCB swap will not solve your problem here. There is adaptive (drive specific) data on your original PCB which means that simply putting a new PCB on the drive will not work. The drive will spin and "make the normal noises" but won't appear ready or identify. What utility program are you using? What is the drive recognising as? |
