Post subject:  maxtor 160gb 30% unreadable need help to retrieve data

Please help my 160gb maxtor drive has failed and in windows CHKDSK about 30% of sectors show as unreadable the disk contains all the family photo's so the data is valuable....

i have run diagnostic software and they either fail or it says it would take 1000's of hrs to complete repair cycle
also drive reports temp of over 80 deg c even when cold
so i think my best option is to copy everything to a new drive which i have and then try the repair
can someone recomend software that would copy as best it could the whole drive to another without stopping on errors
i need to get it right first time as i am thinking of freezing the drive
i have looked on google and cant find anything that fits my needs...!
so i thought i would ask the experts (thats you :D )
Thanks in advance for any replies

The best thing is to image the drive immediately to a new one, an then try to recover the data.
Or send it to someone that can do that.
The more you mess with it, the worst you can do.
