Post subject:  Free Firmware Database

I'm thinking about starting a new hard drive firmware database for those using SD tools. I'll give free access to anyone who will share their library of firmware to be added to the site. This way we all can have faster access to the firmware we need when we need it.

Any thoughts? Or legal issues anyone knows of with this?

I've already got the domain name: www.drivefirmware.com

Sorry but SD forum is a joke for getting firmware.

They have a pathetic selection available and requests get answered around the time your customer moves on. I'm checking out those other ones though.

I'll probably start the database anyway. Anyone who wants in on it please msg me.

I don't mind to participate. All the files I can get, I share in several sites, including HDDGuru.

Thanks PCLab. It's good to know that there are others who share the view that we all would do better if we just worked together rather than compete. I'll keep you in mind when I start the project. I've just got some other projects that are taking priority right now (e.g. designing new platter exchangers) :D

It does look like DataDonor.net has a pretty good selection so that helps for now. In the future I'd like to see if I can work out a deal with a local DR hard drive distributer, to see if they might allow me access to their stock to read firmware from a ton of drives at once. They will probably want payment though. Maybe I can offer them free ad space on the site in exchange.

I agree another firmware source can't hurt. If you can't find what you need on DataDonor.net or the Salvation Data website, you are pretty much out of luck if it is a rare hard drive that had a low number produced. Customers are only willing to wait so long for results.

i have the Doctor Suites , is there a format for Saving the Firmware, i mean, only get SA-A & not SA-A, SA-B & SA-C. or only the Factory SA copy, i would hate to be uploading , Redundant Modules.

Yeah, you can erase the SA-B and SA-C from the folder and only upload the SA-A.
But the FW is so small, why don't you upload everything??

good point, just wanted to have starting point, & i guess try to find out which modules, extract, ... i think on hitachi the crash module doesn't extract . also which files are poprietery to the drive, kinda like key modules only.. not necessarrly the p-list or g-list which is drive specific
