wow checking out the forum at salvation data and i can hardly see any people talking or asking about the data compass and there success rate .
which is weird as you would had thought selling thousands of these units
there be lots and lots of postings.
where this is not

some member say its in beta testing still and once you upgrade to a new firmware
you can not go back to the old firmware.

what i want to know is who has bought one and does it do the job its suppose to do.
and have you had any success rating in the recovery of hard drives.

or is this a simply a image machine nothing else.

cheers

i know one member who will post first thatdellguy

SD can kiss my banned a$$. Hopefully I am the reason for slow sales and lack of SD forum posts. I don't own DC but from the people I've been talking with say its pretty useless and not what was advertised. Data recovery over USB is pretty stupid. As I predicted, DC's life is almost over with the new Data Copy King coming out. SD leave and let die product policy is alive and well. :druunk:

Ever gone to a Chinese diner and said, WOW, these prices are great but that was the worst tasting Chinese food I ever ate? The next day your sick and feel like death is nearby. Well, that’s like SD and its products. They look good and cheap at first sight but they sure hurt later on. :puke:

Hello craig6928,

I just purchase their complete set 1 month ago from Angel@SD. I would be happy to give a full detailed experience and my desktop control so you can try this tool out before you buy.

Let me know if you want a non-bias (new purchasers) opinion.

Where are you located? I am in Kansas, USA, so if you are close, I would be willing to let you review this yourself.

I would like to get an opinion from someone else that is not tied to SD or another device.

PM me and we can setup a netmeeting or livemeeting. Or send me your IM (AIM, Yahoo, MSN or GoogleChat) I will ping you if I see you.

Kou

I suggest you put me in your Foe list Mr. Amarbir if it makes you feel better. I’m not really interested in immature conversations. In my books, your a SD employee. Your reaction is a bit strong to be an SD customer.

Okay, I agree with both.. we need more information about products and by posting and asking questions here, you can get opinions. Opinion is what was provided so, consider it the response to the post.

On just my own experience..update... I have not been successful using the DC to image at all. My experience with the DC product has been like this:

If my other "software" solution, like ONTRACK Software, can recover the files, then the DC can.

If my other "software" cannot recovery or see the drives, DC cannot get to the data also.

Even if my Free HD Hex Editor tool or hackman can do similar viewing, editing, and cloning.

I have not been really successfully in a sense that, it has out done all my old stuff that I have.

So far, it does replace some of my software tools, but I already had them, so for me it was not a value. For someone who did not have the softwares, then this DC may be several software tools that they would have had to purchase.

My opinion only.

I do think it is important to get opinion, good and bad. Even if it sounds like someone is targeting the subject. That is the idea is getting opinion.

If you are looking for a support rally for the subject, then perhaps another thread and everyone can just post good things about the subject. I think they also have a VIP forum that is similar. You have to purchase their tools, and then you get a VIP access to the subjects forum with others that have purchase the tools. You can post questions, comments, and answers. I have not been active on that, since I do know it is filtered. Some will agree and some will not... this is just my opinion.

I believe you can get software updates there, but I have not tried so that is the extend of my short experience so far.

Like "thatdellguy", I plan to keep some history on my experience of the company, product, and service and everyone once in a while, when I see a post like this, I will add my opinion and hope it helps the person who is looking for it.

Actually regardless of the USB data rate, and if they one day implement USB 3.0 it will speeds things up. Then from an IDE or SATA stand of point it will be un arguable as they are close in speed rates with USB 3.0 and SATA 3
USB 3 is 5Gbs/s... SATA3 is 6Gb/s

Also, Data Compass are for hard drives with non physical failure. It takes knowledge to use the SD products in combination. Data Compass does not do everything for you. It's a given! Do not let this guy influence you, because he got banned. Do your OWN research, take a class to understand the product. I have found SD better than Atola, although PC-3000 is kick ass it's also very expensive and hard to comprehend. SD gives you the cheaper price and support.

I haven't really seen what Atola can do, but from what I have gather, it isn't as good as the DC. PC-3000 as i mentioned is great but expesnive! Very.

If you have questions about SALVATION DATA, please PM me and I will be happy to assist.

I do not care what SD has lied or not talked about, about their products. Every products have flaws and weaknesses. But you must take in consideration, who is using and how they are using it.

Here is a little story. This guy from NY had bought a Salvation Data kit, with HD DOC and DC etc.. a week later he returned because he could not perform the tasks. HE argued the product was faulty. When he went to the store to return it, he was surprised how the re-seller could do the task he could not do, by simply understanding HOW to use it.

Anyway, thedellguy you aren't the only one knowledgeable here. Except I do not trash talk because I am butthurt.

1st
Are you SD rep / reseller?

2nd
To compare / mention Atola: Which version do you mean? Definitely, that statement makes no sense!

- Atola Imager ? ... uses SATA for source AND target hdd... that is not as good as USB 2.0 ?

- Atola Insight - is more like a combination of DC + HDD Doctors together:
- * Atola Insight USB ? ... lots of features which go far over imaging (which is possible but NOT the key point)
- * Atola Insight Ethernet ? ... same hardware as Atola Imager but software with much more features

I've tried to stay out of this, since I don't have DC
The fact is I'll not consider dc until SD solves all the
problems with the HD Doctors. Dellguy isn't the only one
that has been trying for years to get get SD to solve
bugs in HD DR.
Complaints to SD fall on deaf ears.
So all I can say is buyer beware.
