As this is a forensics case, I suggest that you not do anything and take the drive to a professional data recovery lab that is able to maintain forensic chain of evidence, as well as get a forensically sound image of the drive.

Well, "flashing" the firmware won't solve it for sure. Suggest to never do so as part of the "repairing" a drive process when the goal is to recover the data, not to mention when we are talking forensics.

Do not delay and do not assume..if the data is vital for you..send it to a pro in your country.

If you want your data send it somewhere, if you just want to make it work again and you don't mind losing whatever was on it, i'm sure people on this forum might be able to help you, maybe even just the search button
Maybe this ended up in forensics by accident, there is no mention of the data
