System Data Recovery.

February 19th, 2015, 3:24

I have a system which has window originally. while i was installing ubuntu , unexpectedly i formatted the whole 500GB system(which constitutes 2 partitions). In spite of overwriting it only over C drive which leads to loss of all the data i have in my system. Is there any ways to recover my data (which was present initially) from ubuntu ?

I have tried to recover data using hiren's boot and helix 3 softwares but didn't get proper method/documentation to recover data.

What kind of format you have performed (I didn't play with Ubuntu for quite some time already)? Was it a quick format or a full one?
After a quick format data should be recoverable. Overwritten files are lost.

Also I'd suggest you to find a Windows machine, connect your drive to it and proceed there, as this way will give you the most options in terms of software.
If bootable recovery CD is the only way, then here's a specialized one: http://www.ufsexplorer.com/recovery_cd.php
(based on Ubuntu as well, BTW)

I never noticed the post here, but I noticed the post on another forum in which I had responded. Here is the link to the other forum thread.
