Post subject: | IDE PCB swap to SATA HDD |
Hi!, I have a SATA WD HDD with the PCB damaged. Do you think that changing PCB and heads to the IDE HDD might work? Attachment: Attachment: Attachment:

Absolutely No! If is a damaged PCB why change the heads? |

They are both Tornado family drives though, so you can probably use the IDE PCB for the SATA drive if you transfer the ROM chip. No idea why you'd even think about moving the heads. |

Judging by the fact that the SATA drive has already been opened, this looks like another botched DIY job to me. |

The two PCBs have different MCUs (88i6740 versus 88i6745), so wouldn't their ROM codes be incompatible? Also, wouldn't each ROM have code specific for the corresponding interface (IDE versus SATA)? Perhaps one could transfer the adaptives to the donor ROM, but then you would need to be concerned about compatibility with the SA modules, eg 11h. http://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/pvIAAOSwYHxWFY0e/s-l1600.jpg |
