Hi Everyone, I got problem with Seagate HDD : Model : ST1000LM035-1RK172 F/W : EB01 Family:AF-Janus_R1 [Mobile HDD] Drive is ready, no clicking, spinning very well, but : Capacity : 0 (0.00 GB) Unable to unlock the ROM/firmware Initializing... Enter BootCode mode... Starting to read ROM... fail to read Flash ROM quickly! Failed to exchange commands! Lower down the baud rate, problem reimaging. At the terminal I got : ESLIP mode TCC:0022:002A EMCDataErr:00000012 TCC:0022:002A EMCDataErr:00000012 TCC:0023:002B EMCDataErr:00000012 TCC:0023:002B EMCDataErr:00000012 TCC:0023:002C EMCDataErr:00000012 ASCII Diag mode F3 T> Your help is really appreciated. thankyou |

rom needs to be read and written using external programmer, the boot terminal requires authentication, so no tool outside of manufacturer can use it to access rom. |

Hi pepe, thanks for suggestion [SOLVED] You are right, external ROM programmer is the key... Below is the step it may useful for others who get the same problem UNLOCK ROM 1. Copy ROM using external ROM Programmer, save the file (BIN). 2. Unlock the file using MRT Seagate utility. 3. Flash the unlock file into ROM IC using external ROM Programmer. 4. Proceed HDD in MRT Seagate utility... save all those HDD resources. 5. Save those SA in safe place ( I am concern to sys file 28,35,1B). 0.00Gb and DE process 1. Clear SMART 2. Clear defect list 3. Rebuild translator 4. Reboot/power on/off, read ID 5. Tadaaaaa.... I got correct capacity. 6. Finally, as soon I proceed DE... it is 100% succeed. Above working well for me. |

translator rebuild is a pretty invasive operation on Rosewood (and all smr families), as it clears MC, so all data in there is permanently erased. Maybe you were lucky and there weren't uncommitted dirty segments in MCMT and you got the data with a good rate, but as a general rule translator regen must be discouraged on these families. pepe |

Hi Pepe, Sorry, wrong information it is should ; Format and recalculate translator ( m0,6,2,,,,,22 ) , not Rebuild. Regards

ppl use translator rebuild and recalc as synonyms, so we meant the same thing. Not to mention that cmd will not even produce good translator, in addition to the aforementioned clearing of MC... pepe |

What pepe says is important: DO NOT USE THIS THREAD'S ADVICE AS A RULE! TRANS REGEN IS TO BE AVOIDED IN DRIVES LIKE ROSEWOOD AND OTHER SMR DRIVES. m0,6,3.... IS NOT THE RIGHT COMMAND TO REGEN TRANSLATOR ANYWAY. |

Hi Pepe, Northwind, So I made mistaken by rebuild translator, this time it may I am just lucky, even though DE I get 100%. If not recommended to rebuild/recalculate/format translator, what should I do for 0.00Gb capacity on ST1000LM035 (Rosewood)? |

Problem is you get 100% in DE but there is a big risk that you killed a large part of data. On a SMR drive you need to find the actual problem, probaly reconstruct some sys files and load to ram before data reading. |

there are other tricks too like patching the fw to skip mc clrearing on regen, but that command is false anyway. |
