Gurus!

I have a very similar issue like the post https://forum.hddguru.com/viewtopic.php?f=28&t=44343 and I would need some help to rebuild the rom so that the rom can work in the donor PCB, could anyone help me with this? I will upload the original and donor roms.

Thank you so much in advance and happy new year!

Best Regards,
Roger

Have you checked the TVS diode and fuse or zero-ohm resistor(s)?

Yes, the TVS is break down, shows 0ohm, and the 0ohm resistors show 15ohm

Then just fix the board??

I hope I can have the skill to fix the 0ohm, but I got fat fingers.. for the TVS, I think I can just take the faulty one out, but for the 0ohm ones I really can not do it. Would put the patient rom with signature injected to a donor board work? I feel this might be a safer way to do it.

The donor board should arrive today, would you be so kind to help me prepare the rom?

Thank you!!!!

Just to update that per the suggestion from fzabkar, I finally encouraged myself to fix the board by taking out the TVS chip and replaced the 0ohms with a small piece of copper wire. After several try and error I finally get the hard drive to work again!!!! Thank you fzabkar for spending the time to look at my issue! Happy new year!!!!

And for everyone, please please make sure you use the right power wire for your hard drive, never mix the wires from different PSUs!!!!!!!

Replacing 0ohm resistor with a piece of wire shouldn't be considered a fix, but should be only considered as a fast way to make the pcb work just for the time needed to backup data.
If you intend still using that drive, you should replace the opened 0ohm resistor with a good one (the same with TVS diodes), otherwise if a power surge happens, your drive most likely will be killed due to over-current / over-voltage that could reach the pre-amp inside the drive.

Totally agree Michael! My plan is to getting the data out, then this fixed drive will be offline and serviced as backup. Thank you for the guidance!!
