While formatting during XP installation the SAMSUNG HDD 120Gb stuck at 2% and continue for 3 hours even.

Any remedy???

1st...Unplug everything else except the dvdrom or floppy and your faulty drive. That means if usinf floppy leave the floppy and the hdd on..or dvd and hdd on

Try using another formating util , download the cd rom image from Max blast or Western digital first, or Samsung feature tool, make a cd and boot it from there, tell it to write full zeros,, it takes about 3 or more hours if its not toast

realise that at this point, if that is your main drive you need some help from someone else to do the dowloading for you to start from scratch..and burn the cd´s

with that done try using the same Samsung tool to format

If that fails. download a copy of Hiren´s (its on zip files) burn this cd rom and repeat the boot..or download the floppy version of a program called MHDD and run it..

Once running MHDD press f1 for options,, first, uncut the drive, then scan, then RST, exit, reboot and go back to samsung disc wizard to see if it works,, forget windows format it sucks..

If you manage to get hiren´s cd,, do some benchmark tests from "system test " and then run Hard disk sentinel to get a diagnose on your drive to know if its toast or not.. If you dare try to disble SMART from the MHDD commands afterwards, reboot and zero fill the drive again....and dont forget to update the mbr if you can get past that procedure..

Last but not least try to dowload full HDDregenerator from a torrent , freeware wont work it only scans the first sectors an leaves you to your demise..

Mhdd has a scan feature which is similar to HDDregen (SCAN command), set it to remap when prompted.. good luck..
and retry formatting with the samsung discwizard again

next step is the trashbin..

If youre a believer try running Spinrite see how that goes, but remember to change the operating level to 5 once started on 4... Spinrite wont feature a 5 level start, so have to start with 4 and change to 5 on th fly.. takes almost 6 o 8 hrs. so if you believe lazarus could return from the dead, be patient, leave those chores going and forget about it go to work or camping .. it took me a WEEK and two failed installs to get a drive back.. and it wasnt as toasted as yours ,

And last but not least is a nice little prog called KILLDISK... my personal favorite,, make a boot floppy copy and try to get past your limitation... do two or three runs if it works..

Check you jumper settings to full capacity with no limitations..MASTER

Last bit.... if nothing of that works, maybe you have a virus in your bios, if youre bold enough find the instrctions on how to flash it but BEWARE ITS ONLY FOR ADVANCED USERS AND DAREDEVILS: IF YOU DONT KNOW WHAT YOURE GONNA DO BETTER TRASH THE DRIVE OR YOU MAY END UP WITH A USELESS MOBO...
