I'm with Zorb - Hitachi seem to have got their problems sorted out..
Then suddenly ....

Seagate 3.5" problems :
7200.7 : PCB circuitry 40% dirty/weak head(s) = 60%
7200.8 : head(s) = 30% SA = 70%
7200.9 : SA = 30% weak/damaged head(s) = 70%
7200.10: rotor seizure = 40%, PCB & SA = 60%
7200.11: SA = 60% unknown(s) = 40%
WD 3.5" problems :
Old architecture Caviar/WDC70P : SA = 30% head(s) & hermetic block contamination = 70%
New architecture Caviar Marvell : SA = 50% head(s) = 50%
Hitachi 3.5" problems :
Old IBM/Traditional : Unstable PCB = 20% head(s) = 80%
New Hitachi GST (up to HTS7225) : SA = 40% head(s) = 60%
These figures are based on drives' own generated problem. Nothing to do with user errors (dropped, wrong power connection, etc) & disaster (flood/lightning/earthquakes)
This is my own statistic during last year (2008), result may vary.

I'm seeing media problems with 7200.11s a lot more than with 7200.10s.
