Friday diagnostic

May 28th, 2010, 8:59

Here's No 1.

HTS542516K9A300

Diagnosis just using power and data cable.

Power cable only - drive spins up like a dream - quiet and perfect - no tick, no knock - like a new drive.

Connect SATA cable - drive immediately knocks - just like those old ATCS04's.

Power up with SATA cable connected - drive knocks, knocks.

Your diagnostic awaited.

It's bad

Re: Friday diagnostic

some disks do not attempt to initialise or calibrate without a data cable, including most hitachi's in my experience.

The knocking suggests one or more head can be damaged, but you really should rule out other possibilities such as defective PCB etc.

I guess its freedom of information friday, then

In Morse code the heads are saying "send me to Italy" :D

I think you can not be certain of this...

for somebody who can compare the DR industry to a 'Gardeners Wage' and who can undermine the professionals in this industry because of *few* automated processes which makes DR 'easier than typing two lines in a word document' I am sure you do not need help with this case...

You do not have a good attitude here...

I'm not sure why anyone is even responding seriously to this person who clearly exists only to take the piss...

"pinkST"? Come on.

How do i know?

I have changed over 8000 heads in my time. If you must know.

I do not seek solution to this situation. I would like to know who knows the solution.

btw. pcb is perfect as well in this case.

Re: Friday diagnostic

Is this based off an actual case that you successfully diagnosed, or are you trying to make some sort of fake diagnostic "adventure"?

As stated; many drives do not initialize without data cable attached, so of course it will not knock with no data cable.

How about this. Why don't you explain the diagnostics for this one; what order you would do things, etc.

Interesting,

8.000 Changing heads....

and you do not know how to solve that problem !!!

Please don't post to waist other peoples time.
If you are a experienced tech and you must post a challenge question for your own curiosity, then please state that in the subject.

Re: Friday diagnostic

The question was quite basic -

I await your diagnosis - so far nothing sensible has been written - just the normal insults
which has plagued this forum for a few years now. It was so good in the early years and with
a few exceptions all the real pros have gone from here quite some time ago.

I could not care a toss if you get this right or wrong because I got another 100 similar cases
which will stump most of you guys here.

Just wait for your next friday case and see if you a pro or not :).

Hi zebong  (I know you ask a lot, more than any at aunty ACE)
If you read my post you should read that I do not seek a solution.

So are you try to prove something here, you are the best made 8.000 head change  wow

If you know the solution good for you, kept it safe.

Have a nice weekend ;)

Here's an idea, why not post them here under the pretense you already know the solution, and wait for one of the real pro's here to give the spoon-fed answer you are waiting for?

Also, changing 8 heads or 8000 heads, it only counts if it was successful...

Re: Friday diagnostic

The problem here is: How do we know YOU know the answer?

Maybe you are seeking an answer; and are making your question into a sort of game to try to squeeze an answer out. This is not good practice.

If you were a more reputable member, who has established themselves as a knowledgeable individual then it would be clear that they already know the answer and are playing a game.

Don't get me wrong, you SEEM like you have some knowledge in data recovery, and you may very well be a seasoned technician, but you have to gain reputation here to be regarded highly here on these boards.

No one here is really known for their "Great accomplishments" in Data Recovery. Most of those accomplishments are well kept secrets.

Was this on the same customer case? :O)

However, it's an interesting question
