Friday diagnostic 2

June 4th, 2010, 5:46

Drive : 7200 FDE.1

Arrived with (0)LBA - sorted : data recovered [No help required Russ]

On receipt of faulty drive access to terminal F3 > // Repaired translator issue.
(Note : No SATA data cable connected)

On request to read Security sectors (tinkerdude) connected SATA data cable and attempt to Serial port.
Immediately on power up Terminal reported :
Code:
(P) SATA Reset
Encrypting
SeaCos 3.6 Build 0
PASSPACKAGE Verified
...
?>

Any further Terminal Commands result in
Code:
(xxh)-Serial Port Disabled

Question : Do these drives (FDE) shut out Serial port connection? and when?

I have a first part of a solution for this :
seagate FDE "trusted" with no terminal access ...

Visit this : http://www.hddsync.com/services/unlock-fde/
show the demo in video
and then send me more info on your case ...

Wait a second ...
Doesnt the FDE drive come with some sort of software to set the password and later to provide the password to the drive for the current session (as its encryption/decryption key)?
If so, since you know the users encryption password, couldnt you use that software to pass the key to the drive ?

Not if the drive is damaged to the point that the software won't run

It's my case for the hard drive in the video !
no boot on the first 128Mo (the partition's protection) because Bad Sectors !
and no boot to windows because Bad Sectors !
and no extraction with standard tools : too many Bad Sectors (some of them freeze my pc) !

It's for this case I have wrote my tools for unlock without any other "tier" software "for security"...

It's do unlock (don't do on/off) and then I can read the drive with a software who deal correctly read errors...
