newbie-info-from-and-for-newbies-about-firmware-etc-t6562.htmlgives a good overview
More specific details seems to be a closely guarded secret
Reading older posts in this forum gives the odd bit of info or clue occasionally

BlackST wrote:"tell us" .... US who ?

You are in wrong place,
This forum is hijacked by money minded businessmens /womans.
This place is no more for genuine help & knowledge exchange but professionals like poehere use this to sell there guides for US$200. BlackST who need to be
BLACK LISTED only make fun with new bee & only claims to use proprietoy hardware & software whic does not exists.
If you wants to sell your own guides & make fun of others why not you build your own websites & do that? Whatever time & efforts you have put you can get good returns out of it.
If you cant help & are not interested to help at least shut up & dont discourage others.

@learner,
Seems that everybody else think different. First, if you want proof of the "proprietary tools" and know how just ask some pros here who know me better.
I can eventually sell training and maybe the tools themselves (BTW some time ago all the K-H and much more was for sale, but nobody was really interested or had the money or whatever was the reason, and also I was sick about average joes crying for the moon, so I decided it was NOT to be marketed - wise decision).
And of course I don't care if you believe or not. I am what I am and you are just you and nothing changes.
If you can afford training, info, or even want some tool just for you, you can ask. It's not going to cost 50 or 100 EUR . I consider also trading , as there are many things that are still not clear to me. I would exchange info very happily.
About the "returns" you are talking about, if I give away info, I can't print the thanks posts (if any, as seems that everything is DESERVED) and go to my bank accountant and deposit them. He will say "Cash or cheques, sir... ! "
If you really dislike what I say, "add foe" in control panel and you won't see my posts and my name anymore, I'll do the same.
Finally, I'll "shut up" (your words) when I really want to and this is not the moment. And if people feel discouraged by reading advice or opinions, I don't know what to think : there's a proverb in Cameroon that says "who asks, can't avoid answers". Popular wisdom. It's not also my fault if this world / life is like that.
PERIOD.
P.S. I suggest you to visit some other forums (eventually you have Google Translator that will help you the way you like : for free) , you'll be surprised how many forums copy/paste from THIS FORUM or the amount of bullshit / useless info you find. I think you'll miss this forum badly. Or maybe not.
Nevertheless,
Regards.

Sorry for posting one after another,
@chinopk,
No you didn't offend anybody, it was the "US" (plural) that made think about you being many people.
AsI have studied latin, there is a form called "pluralis maiestatis" used by kings, like used to talk in plural - i.e. the king says "we have decided to...." (but it was really just one man decision....) "we think that...."
Nowadays for example politics and co. think they are kings and do the same "we have decided that tax quotes need to be rised because the economy asks for it" (who WE ?

)

@learner
Nobody is forcing you to purchase anything. Just becasue you did not get the answer you were looking for and someone to offer you a manual that is 200+ pages and some repair video for free. I am a money minded business woman. After you have been in this field, done your research, invested your money, time, and write a book for a tool or HDD please send me a copy for free. I would love to see you hand this work out to anyone and everyone that comes here for free.
@chinopk
Sorry this one seemed funny to me and not real. If you are in DR or work here a LDR is made from a good working drive and saved by the use of special tools or prorgam. The LDR is used to start a drive that can not work.
Modules or Mods are in the SA of the HDD and used by the HDD to be read and start the drive to work. You will need to find out what mods you want to learn about. Such as plist is factory defect list that is done before leaving factory, and glist is growing defect list this is made during drive usage and identifies bad sectors. These too are saved from a good working drive and used to repair the ones that go bad in the SA during usage.
Firmware is the well you know FW. This is the revision of the HDD. As you know from Seagate different FW can be defective and you have to update it. But FW is not like a cell phone you can not flash it at well.
This is a simple break down of what they are. You learner should of answered his question instead of answering the way you did.

With all due respect poehere :
The LDR is used to start a drive that can not work.
This is a useless answer.
Your take and description on mods is very, very poor. Mods? what's that?
chinopk.
There's a guy called Scott something - he posts video and stuff on the internet - he gets slammed here,
but his info is 10 times better than anything you got in this thread.

BlackST:
"US" while posting, all the members or new user on this forum were in my mind, that's why I said it "US", I hope its clear.
poehere:
Well I strongly agree that people who have done lot of work and spent lot of $$$ in DR should have pay back, there is nothing wrong in it.
learner:
I also agree with you to some extent, that most of the Post on this forum quickly goes to some $$$ solution. This is the real world, however in some cases Guru's really help a lot where a DIY can work, i believe.

Here are Modules: which are located in System Area, please correct me if am wrong !
P-List / G-List
Model Numbers
Serial Number
System Logs
S.M.A.R.T Data
Drive Specific Tables
Servo Parameters
Firmware / overlay code
Recalibration Code
Zone Tables
Test Routines
Factory Default Tables
Translator Data
Security Data Password

Not on all drives. Yes thats a "VERY" basic list of what is stored in the system/restricted/negative cylinders.
Modules/System Files (Whatever you want to call them) are static or dynamic tables (read/write access for updating parameters) and "Loadable/executable" firmware code.

Thanks Guru...
So, LDR would be a good copy of all or most of these modules which are necessary ?
July 23rd, 2010, 4:05
NO.
July 23rd, 2010, 5:19
LDR's as you call them can be many things.
In the factory you would use a loader for some purpose like (first process)
1: A virgin drive with no code (sometimes called Seed Code)
+ Other reasons like FA ORT Debug etc
Seed code has much more power than a standard loader and allows magic things :O)
After factory:-
1: To bridge incompatible FW versions
2: Loader actually contains functions for upgrading FW ROM/SA
--------------------------------------------------------------
In easy terms a loader allows access to basic functions of the drive. If parametric data cannot be read from SA you will still have problems ;o)
The list above is not everything and I'm not in position to give more detail. Hope this opens your eyes a little and this is all I can say on this subject

Thank you very much for taking time and explaining things to the forum as much as possible, I appreciate.
At least now I have some clear concepts about modules, firmware and Loaders.
Thank you to all who take their time to answer especially "Guru"
