PS3 HD issues

Hi

I have a Toshiba MK1255GSX - 120Gb Hard drive that I am having problems with.

I have run various programs on the HD to check that its not damaged and it seems to be ok. There are no bad sectors etc.

You can format the harddrive to fat32 (for ps3) or NTFS etc and it dosnt show any issues.

The problem that i am having is when i install this hardrive in to the PS3 and then try to install new software on HD it gives me a hardrive error.

Also, in windows xp pro when i goto MMC i cant format the HD.

What i would like to do is completly wipe the hd clean and start again with it. ie, low level format, then fat32 format etc.

Has anyone had problems with this kind of thing before and secondly, what is the best software to use to get the hd in its orginal condition ...?

If you explained the history of that drive (what equipment it came from; was there any problem or unusual behaviour there; etc.) this might lead to you getting additional suggestions from members here.

Again, if you explain exactly what software you have run, and how the disk was attached to the system running those tests (e.g. in a USB case?), that might help others to give you suggestions.

You either can, or can't, format the disk - which is it?

What i would like to do is completly wipe the hd clean and start again with it. ie, low level format, then fat32 format etc.

If I was in your situation, I would look in the WinXP system event log, for the time when you attempt to format the disk, and look for events logged at that specific time (which you can then decode to get specific error information). However, the apparent contradiction above also needs to be resolved / explained.

if the sony ps3 tools can not restore the ps3 hard drive then there is something wrong with the
firmware on your ps3

did you by anychance do a update of the firmware and did not let it finished


allso are you on about ps3 hack running software from the hard drive ????????????

Vulcan, if you read what i have wrote it does say that the hd is for a PS3.

The ps3 hd can only be formatted to fat32 for it to work on the PS3.

But, using MMC you can see the HD.

I have used other tools to format the HD to fat32 etc.

Now, the HD does show on windows xp and you can see its full capacity etc. However, the PS3 will reject this HD and say that the HD is corrupt.

The history behind this HD is that it was the orginal HD in the Sony PS3. The PS3 was working fine until one day it fell on to the floor. Since then, there has been a HD issue.

I have not come across this issue before as this is the first time i am working with a games console.

So, if there are any gamers out there who have had this problem please let me know.

I don't know which of my specific questions you think you're answering in that comment, but criticising people by claiming that they haven't read your post, isn't likely to encourage them to spend their time helping you, is it? No worries, I'll just go back to playing my PS3

Falling on the ground didn't make it forget how it was formatted. Obviously there is now some physical problem with the drive. No point in trying to keep using it.

I think that the HD has some kind of issue related to it. Perhaps it was there before it fell on the ground or developed after - im not sure on this as this PS3 is not mine.

Very little advice on how to solve this matter out there .

replace the hard drive with a new one

they are cheap

then the machine will work again.
system restore


allso make sure that the connectors are connected inside the ps3
sometime they do come loose
