down to these two:

I tend to think that WD tend to be a good drive, they run cooler and the PCB board is smaller, less things to go wrong.
Might be slightly more expensive, but that would show quality and there is reviews too.

don't know why it took me all weekend to decide - kept reading little things about the hitachi like they have the lowest repair rate hands down, this drive manages to squeeze a bit more data per square inch on platter than black. it is also strange that it is only $64 at newegg, cause it's not anywhere else (another reason - good deal) so even though everything told me to click buy on the hitachi, I just now bought the wd black - weird. decisions decisions. (5 year warranty vs 3 forced my hand) hope I don't regret it. saw an awful lot of newegg reviewers talking about that whole long, dragged out rma headache with this drive.

thought I'd throw this in for anyone interested. it appears you can download a free, lite version of acronis true image from the wd black page, even if you don't have the drive. just used it, and I obviously don't have the drive yet -
