Highest success rate for data recovery?

August 18th, 2011, 16:30

I really want to know how anyone can possibly make that claim. Anyway, it doesn't matter, I know that they are lying because I have a 200% success rate and am sure that BlackST and PCImage likely have 250% success rates...and of course, we know doomer can recover data the data from a drive before it was ever written to the drive.

The only thing I can think of is that they have a new and improved can of data recovery spray.

For anyone reading or looking to send a drive to be recovered.

I believe the key factor in knowing if a DR company is legit or not is if they perform common PC/Mac repairs. A legit DR firm will only focus on DR. A non-legit DR place will add DR to their list of services almost as if it were a side hobby. Any professional DR firm knows that recovery percentages can vary greatly depending on what comes in that month. Most will not even bother to post a percentage on their respective websites. A hobby DR company will post outrageous claims just to get your drive. Most will claim they are the best and post an unreachable recovery percentage. A professional DR company will use the latest tools and professionals to recovery your data. A hobby DR place usually consists of one or two IT people using free or cheap tools from China with poor control over the outcome of a recovery. Sometimes these hobby DR companies will resort to advertising on EBay or Craigslist as they cannot afford real advertising. I could go on and on…

I know, I was just trying to exaggerate a little.

I know some guys who selectively choose the cases they want to take on, I guess its possible for these guys to reach in excess of 90%.

But realistically there is a whole load of problems that are simply not recoverable. Severe platter scratches, overwritten data, reinitialised RAID arrays, failed DIY cases etc.

Some months I can reach as much as 90% success, maybe even more. Other months maybe as low as 70% - 75% because I do not selectively pick which clients cases to accept.

But from a customers point of view, how can he realistically tell the difference between a reputable DR company with a consistently high success rate and a one man operation which uses free or cheap tools with vere poor success rate and a website with totally unrealistic recovery rates??

Customer cannot tell on the first website click or phone call.

Like everything else in life, customers need to do their searching homework and educate themselves by asking key questions. Do not just send your media to the first place you come across, unless it is highly recommended by a person who knows what they are talking about.

Making several phone calls and looking up various websites should filter out the good from the not so good OR dedicated data recovery shops from the Repair Service shops, etc.

Bad part is that customers have strange priorities, such as being cheap over high quality work, but they do expect the quality anyway. Fact is, things do not work like that.

This is exactly why I made this statement. It’s not a 100% way to tell but it’s a good way to weed out the fakes. The company above obviously doesn't do much DR work if they have to perform PC/Mac repairs to stay afloat.

He should have added network + certificate there as well =) For all the bearing it has on the DR =)
