Turning off tler on western digital red

February 27th, 2013, 11:10

HI I want to cperrsistantly change the TLER setting on my Weastern Digital WD20efrx drive. Also know as the "red" nasware drives. Using the tool from western digital themselves: wdtler.exe. They pulled this tool and support saying it could render newer disks useless but were mot clear if that was targeted at their desktop line which do not have tise tler feature at all. Turning it on could mean u can use their desktop drives in a raid-nas setup. They didnt mention if i could use it to safely turn it off on a red drive which has it already enabled on the drive. Therefore probably a marketing ploy to pull the tool and support to raise sales on their nasware drives.
Did anyone here had any success using this tool to patch the firmware of a wd10/20/30efrx (respectively 1,2,3 tb capacity) drive?
I just want to make sure before I try and possibly ruin a new drive.
