Apparently they hack into your Apple ID account and use the "find my iPhone" app to locate and lock your device.

i don`t think its a WEAK password, since the # of effected users is BIG
some how i guess its kind of Backdoor/Trojan from an App. which they downloaded and used

there is always a Hidden code for such UN-trusted Apps. from the store

they were collecting/gathering enough info/users and then Boom.....

right?

It's happening here in AU
Yes it is based on apple ID and the find my iPhone feature
Currently it is pointing to someone using previous password breaches from elsewhere to take advantage of password reuse
Crude but effective
But rather lame
