Reconnected hard drives invisible in Vista

February 17th, 2016, 8:35

Hi,

I have two healthy drives (the first being a clone of the patient and the second being the target drive) which after deconnection/reconnection are no more listed in the disk management of Windows Vista 32-bits.
The PC is an Dell Optiplex 760.

The target drive, an Hitachi 750 GB 2.5'', was in a docking station, and connected in USB 3.0 to a PCIe expansion card. I'm not sure why it disappeared. I may have dismounted it instead of another drive.
If I power the dock off and then on, the drive is no more listed.
If I put the drive in an USB 3.0 enclosure, it is no more detected, and I tried every USB socket.
The drive is brand new, healthy and detected without problem on another computer.

The clone is a Samsung 2 TB 3.5'', which is directly attached to the SATA-1 or SATA-2 port.
After I put the computer in standby mode, and then brought the session back to life, this drive is no more detected.

ReclaiMe completed the analysis on the clone and if I could find a way to make the connected drives detected again without having to shut the computer down and start the analysis again would be very nice ...

Is there a hint ?

as you describe the issue, your question belongs to a computer technician forum

Are they detected in Windows Device Manager?
