HI i have a 40gb hard drive it is lock to 20gb i try to use the mhdd then i go to NHPA it ased me do u want to set native LBA address? y/n i said yes then it tell me read NHPA fail can u tell me y it saying that
now if i used a drive that say 40gb then i cut it to 20gb and i used the NHPA on that drive it work fine when i set the LBA address then i put yes it work it dont tell me fail so can u tell me y the other drive is failing i have alot of drive that is 40gb and it is lock to 20gb and everytime i try to used the LBA address it is failing ca i tell me y please thank u

some is western digital model # is WD400BB-60JKA0 ALSO I HAVE MAXTOR MODEL # IS 6E040L0711233

Hi Viper,

strange, those usualy don't get this kind of failure. quantums and maxtor quantums (D540X and D740X) can produce such symptoms when one head gets defective (not the system head).

i have alot of wester digital 40gb reading 20gb and all gave me fail
also i have the maxtor when i do the HPA it gave me tempory hpa or persistent hpa i try both of them one by one and it gave me enter new max LBA when i enter new one it gave me HPA set fail . re-power hdd and try again when i do that same error

Wish to share this knowldge with specialests.
First for WD 80 gb caviar models :
1- if hd power chip stable but Bios reading error first check R120 on board in the left side of power chip place .

2 - Check measurements of all feuos resistors on the board first befor u think to reprograming Rom .

3- Clicking voice can be also from 2 Coils ( L1 , L2) on board.

4- If power Chip is shaking your hd it's no't mean this power only weak and you should replace but also u can check first C 57 .C 68 befor u replace power chip .

I wish this information to be useful for HD specialests and hope to see Replays for my knowldge .

* Need Maxtor hd loader .
* Any body have knowldge for how to bring PC3000 Rom file ?
