Multi SATA-Drive.

April 27th, 2012, 10:28

I found in my BIOS:
On BIOS-Main Section:
SATA1>ST3320468A;
SATA2>ST3500418A;
SATA3>ST3320468A;
SATA4>Not Detected;
SATA5>Not Detected;
SATA6>Not Detected;
SATAConfiguration>[Enhanced]

On BIOS-Boot Section:
1-st Drive->SATA:PM-ST3320620A;
2-nd Drive->SATA:PS-ST3320620A;
3-rd Drive->SATA:SM-ST3500418A;
On BIOS Boot Priority Section(Boot Sequence):
1-st Boot Device>[1-st FLOPPY DRIVE];
2-nd Boot Device>[IDE:NECDVD_RWND];
3-rd Boot Device>[SATA:PM-ST3320620A];
4-th Boot Device>[IDE:CD-450E];
5-th Boot Device>[ATAPICD-ROM];

My PC works satisactory.
I not undersand what means this PM,PS,SM attached on SATA type Drive.
System Disk must be connected on SATA1port?

Einstein9 had has in context word SATAtype Drives nor IDE|PATA.
It is true andSATAtype Drive Units have an area with pins(Not this pins are factory reserved. nor to config Master/Slave.
This is!Any clue about topic?

@capitanu2k5,

Unfortunately your posting is difficult to understand (can you ask a friend to help you with the translation next time?). I think you are saying that you disagree with the reply from einstein9 because it mentions IDE/PATA concepts (primary/secondary & master/slave). If I have correctly guessed the main point of your posting, then here are my comments:

a) IMHO your question is not relevant for this board, because it is about BIOS settings. You should ask your questions to people who know about your BIOS. This is not a BIOS forum. :)

b) I agree with the information you have been given so far, about the meanings of PM, PS etc. For example, the disk marked "PM" will be the disk which the BIOS emulates as being the Primary Master (etc.) if the BIOS option is set to make the SATA controller emulate an IDE controller. In the normal SATA AHCI/Enhanced mode (which you are using now), then PM, PS etc. has no relevance for you. To be clear - these are BIOS configuration settings, which are nothing to do with the disks themselves. I hope that makes things clearer for you. :)

Sorry - a slight correction to my previous posting... In one place I said "BIOS" when I meant to say "SATA controller". The relevant part should say:

[...] For example, the disk marked "PM" will be the disk which the SATA controller emulates as being the Primary Master (etc.) if the BIOS option is set to make the SATA controller emulate an IDE controller. [...]

Thank you!Vulcan,Sorry for my english!
In reality in my PC-System Disk it is even so that unit which is marked in my BIOS as PM,and connected on SATA1-port.
I say"System Disk" those which support main O.S.[partion primary,active]bootablevolume(C:\).
Note pls. I am using an dual-boot config:
1)MSWindowsXP+SP3Pro,Professional;>[on volume(C:\)installed1-st as clean by me.];
2)MSWindows7+SP1Ent,Enterprise >[on volume(D:\)installed2-nd as clean,by me,];

Unfortunately I don't understand most of what you are saying - but if you are not asking a question, then it doesn't matter whether I understand or not. :)

A, Anyone of them , can be controlled from BIOS boot priority OR Bios Boot Menu Selection

@Einstein you are wrong! Sole there are really true is Vulcan.I have now the confirmation from ASUS whichare MoBo Supplier.Was their User Manual a missing Note about meanning in Set-Up BIOS about SATAConfig as[IDE]>This direct HostController driver to consider this SATA disk drives as IDE.ManyThanks to both of you(@einstei&@vulcan)
