Need to choose a good/reliable 1.5-2TB HDD

July 16th, 2012, 3:33

Hello,

I'm looking for a good/reliable HDD for a file server, there are a few models in stock at the moment and I would like to get some advice on which one to choose.

1500Gb Seagate ST1500DM003 Barracuda 7200.12, SATA-III, 600MB/sec, 64MB cache, NCQ
1500Gb Seagate ST1500DL003 Barracuda Green, 5900RPM, SATA-III, 300MB/sec, 64MB cache, NCQ
1500Gb Samsung HD155UI EcoGreen F2 SATA-II 5400RPM, 300MB/sec, 32MB cache
1500Gb WD15EARX CaviarGreen SATA-III 7200RPM, 600MB/sec, 64MB cache
2000Gb Samsung HD204UI EcoGreen F4 SATA-II 5400RPM, 300MB/sec, 32MB cache
2000Gb WD20EARS CaviarGreen SATA-II 5400RPM, IntelliPower, 300MB/sec, 64MB cache
2000Gb WD20EARX CaviarGreen SATA-III 7200RPM, 600Mb/sec, 64MB cache

My motherboard is a MSI P45 Platinum Series (MS-7512 (V1.X)

Code:
SATA
- 6 SATAII ports by ICH10R
- 2 SATA II port by Jmicron 363
- 1 eSATA II port by Jmicron 363
- Supports storage and data transfers at up to 3Gb/s

If the manual shows nothing about SATA-III support, can I buy a SATA-III HDD ?
Thank you in advance.

From a reliability standpoint, any disk can fail at any time. Make backups and you're good to go.
