I have acquired a Lenovo P15 gen 1 beast with a 4K LCD. This beast has dual M.2 slots and a 4K UHD panel. The T1000 graphics are mediocre but there is some use for the discrete graphics. Might look at upgrades for the machine.
Dual M.2 slots will be handy as I can use one slot for the boot and the second one can handle more games etc.
The Core i7-10850H (6 cores, 12 threads) is strong enough for Excel not to bog down with modelling etc. CPU can run at 5.1 GHz with Turbo Boost. CPU is Comet Lake, mediocre but it runs good enough. CPU is PCIe 3.0 so its mediocre but it better than some older machines I have.
The IPS LCD is nice for video which is why I picked this one as it supports 100% Adobe RGB. Viewing angle is wide too.
Dual TB3 ports allow for more devices to be attached so I can more easily use docks etc as the power is not USB-C on this machine.

so you bought a 6 year old PC. What type of modelling are you doing in Excel. how much was it? can you provide a picture of it?

Mostly I do a lot of nutritional tables to balance nutrition before stuffing it into software
I was thinking of getting 128GB stuffed into it as it should be powerful enough for some demanding work
PAR2 for larger backups can use a staggering amount of RAM, I have seen upwards of 48GB RAM used in 1.2TB backup to make 10% redundancy

You should use DAT tapes for backup instead. Everybody knows they can stuff a lot of DATA

I saw a dual LTO-9 tape system that had a TB3/TB4 interface. I have only seen DAT tape with SCSI interfaces. The LTO box was $13 grand. Wonder if LTO-10 version is available now?
I like Thunderbolt as it fast and daisy chain is easy and hubs are not super expensive. My Satechi TB4 box came with 135W but my old Dell 180W PSU is far more practical as the upstream has 90W and the downstream have 15W each. The three USB 10 gigabit ports may be 5W or so.
My USB BD drive has a USB-A cable attached. BD25 discs are cheap, BD50 are almost as cheap now.
TB5 is now starting to appear in the latest laptops but anything I own is backwards compatible. TB3 brought USB-C into the realm of laptops back with 8th gen machines.

why do you need a bd drive if you have a LTO-9 tape system. What are you using thunderbolt for? lets have some more word salad

I use the BD mostly to import music into iTunes.
LTO-9 tape and LTO-10 tapes are rather expensive. It seems storage is getting way out of hand.

I buy CD audio form thrift stores. I have a 12TB hard disk for music. Once the AI bubble pops SSD prices may come way down some day. Hard disks > 12TB the prices are stupid.
My P15 has duel TB ports and it has dual M.2 slots. It has a finger reader and facial recognition.
I am slowly refurbishing an old 4th gen i7 laptop and it has BD drive in it built-in. It supports dual SATA slots. Need some brackets as SSD are 7mm while old hard disks are thicker. I have some SATA SSD for the project.

Can you spot the spelling mistakes in your post? What Artists does an AI listen to form the thrift store bought CD's? How does an AI refurbish an i7 laptop? whay are the > 12TB prices stupid? I think they are a good deal

Seems that the same style of adjacent semi-relevant text, with accompanying pointles 'facts' has been used since around 2020. Almost cutting edge AI slop back then. I just don't understand the work involved in putting this out there, getting around forum sign-up human proving and slop control. What is the point of it all?

I have not used AGP since I grabbed a D915PGN that was PCIe instead of AGP. This P15 is slightly more recent but the OLED display is nice to work on. I had to spend time to calibrate Windows 11 on it.

Top loaded USB enclosures are convenient as I can move or copy data as desired It makes juggling a box of hard disks much more easily.
USB 3.0 has been able to handle hard disk speeds easily. TB3/TB4 is faster for M.2 SSD. Now PCie 6.0 is emerging and USB-C is spinning its wheels.

Sliding drawers are convenient, as I can pull them out and store things conveniently, and shut them again. It makes spaces around me quite pleasing to the eye.
Some were made of wood, but recently they are just chipboard or MDF. Seatools are not working on these, so I tried Makita, which worked well to recover some of the damaged cabinets

I use a large table for my gear, so top loaded disk enclosures are convenient
I have several laptops besides the P15 I have been using. Machine has a 4K OLED LCD so the machine is good for movies etc.
I have installed two M.2 SSDs in the machine but I might get larger capacity ones for more convenient entertainment
