MHS2040AT Head Mapping

October 30th, 2007, 7:32

I have a failed Fujitsu MHS2040AT with 4 heads, but all donor parts I have available have only 3 heads, I can see no specific revisions or information that differs between the two disks and no way to know if I have compatible parts. I have had a similar problem with a Fujitsu MHV2080BH. Is there any way to determine the head configuration before I order any more parts which I cannot use?

Thanks

I had just the same problem with a Fujitsu drive.

Coffeebean: in the damaged drive you can check head map by opening the drive, but how can you check that on a donor drive you're searching?

It is identifying the head map on a donor I need. Hope there is a way for this!!

Thanks

04h will give both donor and patient.

also, quite often "non-detecting" patient even allows to read 04h,

Coffeebean: but imagine you're searching for a donor drive for a case like this. How will know what parameters to search in order to have the same head map as patient drive?

Hi dmarques,

I answered the question twice.

So, take some Fujitsu drives and read 04h and figure it out. :o

Hi Guys,

I think there is an indication in the serialnumber of the drive, just as with the maxtors.
However, for a Fujitsu, it was the 4th or 5th character i think.

I'm not in the office, so i cannot verify it now, but i found out this was correct with the drives in my posession.

Best regards,

Dobre

That would be nice to know what's the character.
