Has anyone noticed the recent preponderance of 500 errors on this site lately?

It seems to have been an on and off problem for the last few months, though the trend in frequency appears to be upward. Earlier today I saw it a couple of times, and just now it has appeared no less than 20 times in the last 15 minutes.

I see them quite frequently, not as bad as 20 times in 15 minutes, but they are still an annoyance.
