Question, about WDxxxxBEVS series

May 17th, 2009, 14:42

Hello,

could someone please explain why all WDxxxxBEVS (and maybe other series) have spaces in front of serialnumber??

Thanks in advance!

I ask becouse I work in a company and we have purchased software which is no longer supported.
Unfortunately the software can't recognize the Hard drives, by reason of the IDENTIFY Data (spaces in front of serialnumber).
We updated the firmware but it still fails on the serial number.

Example: ( _ represents spaces)
----------------------------------------
Model number: WDC WD800BEVS-07RST0
Firmware Rev: 04.01G04
Serial number: ____WD-WXE20XXXXXX

You will need to bear in mind that there are no standard serial numbers except the maximum number of characters. Some have leading spaces some have trailing spaces.

You can buy a seagate and with terminal change the name to WD

this method sounds very good, could you please give more information?
