Noob here sorrie

I have a seagate barracuda 7200.10 500 Gbyte HDD and i dropped like an idiot and now its making noises... so i opened it up its out of warranty... and i see scratches on the platter, i was looking to see if there is anyway to recover the data from this and if you could guide me in the right direction please... sorry if i sound like a total noob...

At this stage, the data is likely gone forever. If it is possible, it will require a professional, and likely in the $1500 range.

I agree with rchadwick. If there are scratches on the platter, then the platter will not be readable to retrieve your data, depending on the depth, location and ammount of damage it can be attempted, but unlikely.

Likely if the platters are damaged recovery will not be possible.

Just to keep you optimistic, SD are currently working on a product to help recover drives with scratches. Maybe you should hold on to your HDD for a little while..... :D

Depends where the scratches are.

If they're in the centre (near the spindle) then there's still a reasonable chance of recovery.
